TAP Houses 2016Now that fall is coming to an end, the colder air will drive unwanted pests to the warmth and comfort of your home. Here are some tips to protect your home from unwelcome company.

  1. Schedule an attic inspection from your current pest management professional. This is a great way to predict where pests will invade if given the opportunity and may uncover some current guests that you didn’t know were freeloading in your home. 2. Remove opportunities for moisture to gather such as drains and broken or leaky pipes. These are great entry points for pests.
  3. Make a point to examine your kitchen and pantry for opportunities to place food in airtight containers. Pests that invade your kitchen can carry pathogens which lead to serious health risks.
  4. Dispose of your household trash regularly and place it in sealed receptacles preferably away from the house.
  5. Trim plants, bushes, and trees with branches that are in close proximity to your home.
  6. Seal any cracks or crevices in the foundation of your home with silicone-based caulk. Make sure you focus on the location that any utility pipes enter your home.
  7. If you have a fireplace, store firewood at least 10 yards from the house as this is a food source for termites and a wonderful hiding place for slithery pests.

Being proactive and diligent all winter long will help you maintain a comfortable and pest-free home for you and your family. Now that your home is ready for the winter, bundle up and relax with a good book and a warm cup of joe.
